Finland
On December 26. 2025 our journey to wintery Finland began. Together with our dear parents. Finland is a Nordic country in Northern Europe. It´s known for it´s vast forests, thousands of lakes and exceptionally high quality of life. Finland is considered one of the happiest countries in the world and is famous for its strong education system, technological innovations and social equality. Culturally it is characterized by its sauna tradition closeness to nature and a calm reserved way of life.
After the first day which was dominated by our journey we were very happy in the evening to enjoy a dinner at the local pizzeria. Finnlandiano. Afterwards we arrived at our beautiful Airbnb located on the lakeshore.
We spent the next two days (December 27 and 28, 2025) relaxing, enjoying nature, taking photographs, using the sauna, reading, cooking, and strolling through the shops.
On December 29. 2025 the day had finally come and we drove through a snowstorm to our first activity. A snowmobile tour through the freshly snow-covered Finnish winter forest. Which was a lot of fun. We spent the afternoon back at our accommodation.
December 30. 2025 was filled with a husky sled ride. A dinner at the hotel restaurant and a Northern Lights tour. They were breathtaking to behold as we witnessed this natural spectacle for the first time. The sight of the auroras against the starry sky and our walk through the sparkling snow are memories we will never forget.
Tired from the exhausting previous day we were very much looking forward to our snowshoe hike the next day (December 31. 2025) through a nearby nature reserve. It was very meditative and a completely new experience for us. On New Year’s Eve we first enjoyed the sauna in our forest sauna. Then cooked a delicious meal and had a game night. At midnight we toasted by the lakeshore. We enjoyed the nearby fireworks across the lake as well as the sparkling snow and the rainbow-colored halo around the moon, which welcomed the new year.
On New Year’s Day (January 1. 2026) we had a special experience. We got to go on a reindeer sled ride through the winter landscape and get up close to these amazing animals. After enjoying the sauna in the afternoon we had our final board game night.
Unfortunately the next day we had to return to Germany. We are very grateful for this extraordinary journey. We made even more special by the friendliness of the Finnish people. We hope we can return to this magical country again soon.
